IRM have recently invested in the development of a fully automated, enclosed drill pipe inspection facility, in the heart of Macaé’s industrial area. This demonstrates the commitment IRM has to the offshore drilling sector and greatly complements the existing services we provide. IRM have recognized that there is a demand for high quality drill stem inspections in Brazil and with the increase, in exploration and production activity, the demand has never been higher.
IRM are planning to, “open the doors”, in the first quarter of 2011. With an impressive 10,000m2 area, we fully complement our tubular storage and management service, with our inspection and cleaning services. This creates a, one-stop-shop, based in the heart of Brazil’s Oil capital, to service the needs and demands of even the most demanding of clients.

Drill Pipe Inspection
Depending on your requirements, IRM Services is able to provide a variety of Drill Pipe related services, ranging from the Basic/Standards API to Critical well service standards - DS1 & NS2
ELECTROMAGNETIC
Full length scanning (excluding upsets) of pipe using the longitudinal field with an EMI buggy type unit. Transverse and three dimensional flaws such as pits, seams, cuts and gouges are detected and evaluated. Classification paint bands are applied.
ULTRASONIC THICKNESS GAUGING (SPOT CHECK)
Wall thickness is verified with an ultrasonic thickness gauge. Frequency and location of readings will vary with application
DIMENSIONAL READINGS ON TOOL JOINT
Various dimensional readings are taken on the tool joint to determine acceptability according to API RP 7 G or TH HILL DS1
RE-FACING
Mechanical damage, galling and pitting to the shoulder face on rotary shoulder connections are repaired by powered rotary surfacing equipment according to the appropriate specification.
SHEARWAVE / ANGLE BEAM INSPECTION
When a DS-1 Cat 5 inspection is requested or upon request of the customer, IRM Services can perform an UTEA inspection using Newtech Shearwave equipment.
